Item Description
A beautiful textural work by Dutch artist and sculptor Willem Kloppers (1937-2014).
Known especially for his work in reliefs on panel which this piece typifies, where he was particularly influenced by the works of the Informal Art movement of the 50s and 60’s, the foundations of which emanated from Paris after 1945. The aim of this movement was to bridge the gap between traditional painting and spatial sculpture.
This work uses mixed media elements such as textured papers and materials with paint added to the surface and applied to board. The tonal palette in shades and tones of brown highlights the textural element of the piece. Signed and dated 1961.
