Like most dealers we try to retain the original.
Goes without saying.
Occasionally though.......it's nice to give a helping hand.
Our showroom is in an 18th century brewery warehouse tucked down a side street in Arundel, West Sussex.
We have a large collection of English and French decorative furniture.
But...we also have our own style of upcycling on pieces in need of some TLC.
It's a look that caught the eye of Liberty London in 2016 and they invited us to take a small space in their store.
When we arrived with our van on the day of moving in, we were stunned.
Had to return with more stock.
They had given us the entire 4th floor.
We stayed 3 years.
The look is our take on the arte povera style of decoration of the 18th century.
We paint..mostly black...but occasionally dark green or red.
Often with a hint of gilt.
Then we decorate with decoupage using images from the 19th and early 20th century.
We occasionally come across something, quite by chance, that is fun to use.
Like the 1915 French soldiers scrapbook we found hidden in a French armoire.
Suffice it to say,
"Oooh La La."
This little 1930's table is an example of our recent work.
It was in a dreadful state when it arrived.
Now it can go out into the world looking a tad more sophisticated.
