 Framed still-life oil on canvas painting of Roses in a Green Vase

Signed by the artist to the lower left, Picart Le Doux. Early 20th century

In giltwood frame.

Charles Alexander Picart Le Doux(July 12, 1881—September 11, 1959)
Born in 1881 in Paris, Picart Ledoux was a painter as well as an engraver, poet and writer. A student at the Beaux-Arts in Paris until 1902, he first lived in Montmartre and attended the Lapin Agile where he met Suzanne Valadon and her son Maurice Utrillo. There he also met Jules Romains, who wrote of him that he was the last true impressionist, comparable to Renoir in research, until the end of his life perfecting his art.
In 1910, the year of his first personal exhibition, he was admitted to the Société nationale des Beaux-Arts. In 1921, he became a friend of Aristide Maillol. From 1923, he exhibited all over the world. In 1934-1935, he created a decorative set for the liner Normandie and left Montmartre for Montparnasse. National museums acquired numerous paintings and he won the great gold medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1937. When he died in Paris in 1959, his works appeared in the museums of Paris, New York, and Moscow. and Tokyo. His sons Yves and Jean (1902-1892) were respectively a painter and tapestry maker.
