Item Description
A Western Australian Aboriginal Mulga Wood Woomera (Or Spear Thrower) & Spear. Circa 1960. The Woomera is 32 inches in length. The Spear 54 inches in length. The Woomera is decorated with carved kangaroos one side & a geometric pattern the other. It may be possible through research to find out the maker of the Woomera. The hook tip on the Woomera has come away at some stage and is now missing. It does have the original tree gum handle. Sale is for both items. By repute these two items were brought separately from Antiques Shops in Western Australia in the early 1990s and returned to the UK at that point, they have spent the last twenty years or so in storage.
Interesting fact, the rocket launching range in South Australia was named Woomera after the Aboriginal Spear Throwing Device.
