Item Description
This late 18th century Burmese puppet head is hand-carved out of elm and would have originally been attached to a puppet body. It also contains a set of glass eyes which showcases the uniqueness of this piece. This specific puppet head has remnants of its original painted surface which can be seen by the light purple paint specks. This puppet head also has a carved hat which is not commonly seen.
It would have been used in theatres or travelling shows throughout Burma. Nowadays, they can compliment a modern household but adding a different and rustic duality.
