Item Details

A beautifully carved, 19th century, sycamore breadboard. This is very deeply carved, with a border of flowers and foliage, and it dates from c.1860. The flowers are very naturalistic, well detailed, and nicely undercut, and the wood has a lovely, pale patina. There is slight damage to the board. It has probably been standing in damp at some time and one side has worn slightly flat. There are also a couple of chips to the rim, and a couple of short cracks where the wood has dried out over the years, but none of this detracts from the beauty of the board.
