Item Details

A 19th century steel breadknife, with a nicely carved wooden handle, dating from c.1880. The handle is carved with a ribbon, a flower and barley, against a stipple background. The steel blade is marked “V R” to either side of a crown, above “THOMAS TURNER & COMPY SHEFFIELD” and it is also engraved “Bread Knife” in an ornate script. The blade is well worn with use and there is a short, but tight, split in the wooden handle.
Dimensions: Length 31.5cm. Width of blade 3.5cm. Diameter of handle 3cm.
