This is a super quality child’s plate and it dates from c.1820. The central print shows a child using a stick as a hobby horse with grandfather sitting watching. The verse reads: “Who when he saw me sad or cross. Would spin the top, or trap ball toss. And let me make his cane my horse. MY GRANDFATHER” The border is moulded with fruits and flowers and the moulding is highlighted in yellow, ochre and shades of blue. On the reverse of the plate a small glaze bubble has popped leaving an area the size of a pin head with no glaze. There is also a tiny glaze flake on the rim. Otherwise it is in very good condition.
