Item Details

A 19th century, French steel meat cleaver. This is stamped with the number “895” above a letter “g”. It has an unusual shaped blade, with a hole in the top so that it can hang when to in use, and it dates from c.1890. The handle, which is made from an early fibre block, has a combination of brass and steel fittings. There is pitting to the steel blade, from use, but otherwise piece is in good condition.
