Item Details

A nineteenth century knife sharpening steel with a cast brass handle. This is marked “G. BARNSLEY BEST CAST STEEL”. George Barnsley and Sons was founded as a tool manufacturing business in 1836, specialising in specialist rasps and files for the shoemaking industry. They diversified into knife blades in the 1850’s. This steel has a beautifully shaped brass handle. It dates from c.1860 and is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Length 43.5cm. Width of handle 7cm.
