Item Description
A very attractive, and unusual, French copper grape hod embossed with a bunch of grapes. Grape hods are usually much larger than this. You would carry the hod on your back, when in the vineyard collecting grapes, and the grapes would be thrown over the shoulder and into the hod. Although this is a particularly small example it was obviously designed for use as it still has the original fittings on the back to take the leather straps which would attach it to your shoulders. It is well made, from a heavy gauge of copper, and it dates from c.1890. It is in excellent condition and could still be used for original purpose, if you have a vineyard, or it would make a beautiful waste bin or container for a large floral arrangement.
