https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/appleby-antiquesA Wedgwood Capriware saucer. This is marked “WEDGWOOD” and it dates from c.1820. Wedgwood started to produce this type of ware in 1815. The raised enamel and gilded decoration was copied from Chinese pieces which were being imported into the U.K. and Wedgwood used this style of decoration on both black basalt and redware, calling both “Capriware”. It continued in production, in moderation, into the 20th century but the quality of the decoration on this coffee pot is typical of the 1820’s. It is in excellent condition.
