Item Description
A Wedgwood, dark blue jasper dip Portland Vase. The original Portland Vase, also known as the Barberini Vase was a Roman Cameo glass vase made between AD1 and AD25. Wedgwood experimented for years, in the 18th century, to produce his copies and examples have been produced ever since. This is a lovely example, with very good quality, translucent reliefs. It is marked “WEDGWOOD” and dates from c.1820. There is also a small workman’s mark which is known as the moustache mark. There are a couple of small firing lines in the reliefs, and there is a tiny area on the handle where the dip colour has not covered properly. This can all be seen in the images. These are faults from the time of manufacture and the vase is in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Height 17.4cm. Diameter 13cm.
Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £20. Most of Western Europe add £10.
