Item Description

This whole set and ark are presented on this custom made display with Mr & Mrs Noah and two of their children (4 human figures ) plus 22 pairs of animals (44 animals), making 48 figures in all, 5 of which have damaged legs.

There is some chipping and overall wear.

This flat bottomed ark is late 19th century, early 20th century and made in Germany, but unfortunately it has no makers mark.

It was very much a family cottage industry, they were then shipped by wholesalers around the world to Victorian/Edwardian families and their strict adherence to the Sabbath, where in "most" houses these would only be allowed to be played with on Sunday.

But of course another attraction was the fact that children had never seen some of these animals before, they were intriguing and exotic.

All the pieces are held on with removable glue dots for easy removal.
