Item Description
The moment we set eyes on this chap we loved him.
His face weathered with age is so wonderful we just had to buy him !
An American c.1930's Native American Mohawk Whirligig on a contemporaneous canoe which has the words "Mohawk Trail 1920" written on the bottom and a beautiful handmade iron stand specifically forged for us for this item to give our man the gravitas he deserves.
Carved and painted wood with leather leggings, fabric pelt and neck piece.
Whirligigs were originally an inventive way to keep unwanted animals from a property, they were also known as wind toys but soon became the epitome of American folk art.
The whole piece from the bottom of the stand base to the top of his hair is 50cm and the whole width from tip to tip of the canoe is 62cm.
