Striking and ghostly oil on canvas portrait of a gentleman.
18th Century or earlier.
bears a later Inscription to the back, in German I think, with a date of 1807. However I believe the painting to be earlier.
The painting is in poor condition, the canvas is thin with losses of paint here and there and with a hole. It’s in untouched unrestored condition and as such has a presence and a ghostly appearance which is extremely appealing to those of us who love the look and atmosphere of time worn pieces…
