An antique French portrait of a young erudite, oil on canvas, circa 1810.


I do love the way the portrait is unusually positioned on the stretcher, being a fragment from a larger work, and this can be seen from the back where the canvas has been folded over (last photo).


It remains a cool antique portrait in its own right.
