Around 1910, a French oil on canvas of a rather stylised clivia or fire lily, as a house plant beside a book.


I say ‘stylised’ as it is painted in a slightly naive manner, and the thick long leaves seem to be alive, moving around the canvas like tentacules, threatening almost


It makes you weirdly drawn to it (colours are great too).
