These boxes were used to store valuables and has suffered a break in, not unexpected in the violence of the Civil War. It was rebuilt in the late 17th Century and given new, hinges, a lock, a stand and possibly a lid from another damaged box. The punch design on the lid is a different motif. The stand dates to around 1690.
