Antique Country House post box, commonly kept in the hallway in grand home, also in businesses and hotels
Probably Edwardian but these had been popular since the reforms of the Post Office in the 1840's
Servants would collect the outgoing mail from the boxes and take to the post office
It features an IN and OUT panel, switched by a leather panel
'RETURN AT' so that a pencil time could be written on the panel to indicate when the sender would be back to collect the mail
Bevelled glass viewing window for a quick check
Made in golden oak, original brass keyhole missing, some wear on the lettering, otherwise in excellent condition,
