Item Description
A charming handpainted Edwardian portrait miniature of a beautiful little boy, mounted behind glass in its original medallion style frame. It has been skilfully painted in muted watercolour but is unsigned. The boy's likeness and his serious expression have been delicately captured by a very competent artist. He has rosy cheeks, blue eyes and a mop of curly hair. He is wearing what appears to be a Pierrot costume, with a soft ruff round his neck and pom-poms down the front. Unfortunately, there is nothing to indicate who the child was, but he clearly came from a well-to-do family. I estimate that it dates to around 1905 to 1910.
The frame is made of textured copper with a loop at the top for hanging. The portrait is held in place with tiny pins and is backed with cream velvet.
It is in excellent condition.
