Item Description

This exceptional pair of hall chairs showcases the simplistic yet refined elegance of early 18th century English furniture design. Crafted from beautiful dark English oak, these chairs feature a splat back silhouette and an unusual inverted stepped arch top.

A sturdy pair with turned legs and stretchers, topped with two straight plank seats, the vertical, single, splat back runs down the centre of the chair providing bold straight lines.  As with all well crafted pieces of the period, the proportions and thickness of the wood provides a perfectly balanced design.

Likely commissioned for a grand country manor or estate, these hall chairs would have been placed prominently in an entryway or foyer to welcome guests. Remarkably well-preserved examples of early 18th century English oak furniture of quality.

These chairs a testament to the enduring, timeless quality of English artistry and craftsmen of the period, with 200 years of history and wear, they will make a beautiful addition to an interior design scheme, adding warmth and texture.

In very good overall condition, some historic repairs to the seats (see photos), a sturdy pair with no wobbles.
