Item Description
Judy Bibby (British, 1947-2021), Richmond Lock, oil on canvas, signed and dated '97 (bottom right). Judy Bibby MA RCA was born in Bootle, Liverpool in 1947. Suffering difficulties at school Judy found her talent within drawing and painting. Leaving school at fifteen with no qualifications, she was accepted into Southport School of Art. Upon completing two courses at Southport, she went on to study fine art (painting) at Liverpool College of Art. Continuing her success as an art student, in 1968 she made a move to London to the Royal College of Art where she completed her Master's degree. Judy was awarded a distinction and rare to this time, a teaching post at Lancaster Polytechnic was offered. Throughout her life, Judy drew on personal experiences to create works of art using various media including oil on canvas, drawings, sculptures and ceramics. The theme was usually figurative. In 2002, she was offered the post of Artist in Residence in Cill Rilaig in Southern Ireland, where through isolation Judy took inspiration from the surrounding landscapes to create. Judy was pivotal in setting up the Moira Kelly Gallery in Islington, in which many established artists have exhibited. Having taught at various art schools, including Central St Martin's and Kingston University in London and Innemore School of Art on the Isle of Mull, she went on to co-found with Mike Major, the New Richmond School of Art in Richmond-upon-Thames, Surrey in 1994. 30% of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to raise money for a bursary for a first-year art student from Liverpool to study at the Liverpool Art School.
