Item Description
Midcentury Karuselli leather and fibreglass swivel armchair by Yrjö Kukkapuro for Haimi Oy, Finland. Karuselli was nominated as the most comfortable chair in thhe world by The New York Times in 1974. Legend has it that Kukkapuro designed the chair by falling into a snowdrift and using the subsequent indent in the snow to form the design around which the chair was made. The Karuselli (or carousel) is his most famous model and belongs to the collections of major museums including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the V&A in London. This early edition has its original black leather upholstery and is in good vintage condition with signs of use and wear appropriate to its age.
