Item Description
Rare , maybe unique , boxer hand puppets with wooden, hand painted heads.
Dating from the golden age of boxing in the 1930’s These puppets might be American.
The heads mounted on a wooden dowel handle which is disguised by the red and yellow outfits , with black liner underneath.
Both having wonderful expressions these are wonderfully decorative and highly sought after.
The condition is good , with play related wear throughout, the heads show signs of knocks giving an excellent patina. The gloves which look to be papier-mâché painted to simulate leather are also showing knocks and cracks. The outfits are still bright , again with wear . The black boxer’s costume has a tear to the back , more marking to the fabric and the collar is fraying away from the neck. See images for extra details.
The heads are approximately 14.5cms high and the puppets have an overall length of approximately 52 cms
