Item Description
"Buses this week from Municipal Hall only" - this early 20th c. hand painted notice board is a wonderfully charming, folk-y piece. It's made from three planks of wood and it has been painted / sign-written compenently, though some what naievely. The bright red lettering has a gentle cast shadow and endearingly, the spacing of the lettering changes on each line. Two fixing holes are located mid-way up each side and there's plenty of wear around the outer edges so the change to the bus route must've been a fairly regular occurance. The sign came from a small museum and on the reverse someone has penned "1920's sign probably in use during fairs shows bonfire etc" and I think they're probably spot on. The sign is plenty grubby, theres surface scratches, areas of paint loss and two streaks of green over paint from somewhere but to me this is all part of the charm and character of the piece. The sign measures 93cm wide x 48cm high x 4cm deep.
