British Railway's enamel signs are very iconic and combine simple, clear typography with vibrant colours and have their lovely rounded edges.
This sign is single sided - it would have originally been back to back with a matching sign so that it could have hung from the middle of the platform/station and been visible on both sides. It now hangs neatly against a wall. Perfect for a shop/cafe/bar/restaurant where it can be both functional and decorative.
The sign is in a decent, though patinated condition. The blue enamel layer has weathered and lost it's glossy surface, though retains a decent 'scheen'. This has also caused some mottling to the colour and some 'runs' from the lettering. There are some losses around the outer edges and one larger 'knock' to the lower right hand side - this has had some paint applied to the exposed metal - it was common with the rail signs for touch ups to be applied whilst they were on display and that's probably the case in this instance.
Although not a 'mint' example, this sign has bundles of character - this combined with the light blue colouring makes for a very attractive piece of signage.
It measures 3' / 91.5cm wide x 18" / 45.5cm high and has a return of 2.5cm.
UK Mainland delivery would cost £15.
