Item Description
J. Lyons & Co. were best known for their chain of tea shops which opened from 1894 and finally closed in 1981, and for the Lyons Corner Houses in the West End of London. From the 1930s Lyons began to develop a pioneering range of teas, coffees, cocoas, biscuits and cakes that were sold in grocery stores across the world.
Here we have an unusually small "Lyons' Tea" enamel 'banner' sign in the company's iconic blue and orange colourway. It's likely to date to the 1920s/'30s. It's survived the decades in decent order, though I suspect has spent a chunk of time sat on a damp floor / soil with the lower half and right hand edge having lost some of the enamel's surface shine along with a bit of mottling / discolouration and some enamel loss / corrosion (the angled photograph represents this as well as possible). Despite this, the piece remains vibrant, displays well and can be hung using the original mounting holes.
The sign measures 90cm wide x 30cm high.
