Item Details

The Courage Brewery are best known for their bitters and ales. They've existed as a brewery since the 18th century and the Cockerel logo would've been a familiar sight in pubs throughout the 20th century. This particular enamel sign probably dates to the 1950s / '60s and would have originally hung in a wooden frame. Decades of exposure to the elements have caused the sign to weather beautifully - the purple detailing has faded and the couple of patchs of enamel loss have lead to rusty streaks, all giving the piece a character that just can't be replicated. Regardless of your interest in beer, the large 'Courage' wording and cockeral pictorial make for a fantastic piece of decor, in a mancave or in the home. Condition wise, the sign isn't a collectors piece (though examples are scarce) - the purple enamel layer is heavily mottled, there are patches of enamel loss and it's time spent in a wooden frame have caused corrosion around the outer edges but it sits nice and flat and displays well. Please note that there are no hanging holes - it can be sat on a surface as pictured or secured to a wall by sitting on screws below and holding in place with screws above. The sign measures 86cm high x 71cm wide
