Item Details

These late Victorian (c.1890s) stoneware beer bottles are wonderfully decorative pieces with a thick glaze and wonderful, crisp graphics / lettering. This example was for Ridley, Cutter & Firth's Extra Double Stout from the Manor Brewery, Newcastle.

Porters and Stouts were the most popular beer amongst the working classes... Many breweries also produced an 'Extra Double' - stronger - version. The transfer printed label on this bottle is wonderfully and intensely detailed alongside the typically Victorian swirling decoration and monogram it also has the additional phraseology; "Please replace stopper when empty" and "this stout is guarunteed to be brewed from the finest malt & hops only & to be absolutely pure." (they just don't advertise things like they used to).

The bottle has survived it's years in good order with no notable chips / damage.

The bottle measures 20.3cm high and is 6.5cm in diameter. The price includes UK Mainland delivery.
