This is an antique gentleman's writing slope. An English, burr walnut and leather correspondence box, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1850.



  • Delightful craftsmanship with a striking appearance

  • Displays a desirable aged patina and in good original order

  • Select burr walnut show fine grain interest and warm caramel hues

  • Gold tooled and embossed leather skiver in a charming deep blue



  • Unmarked brass name plaque to lid, ideal for personalisation

  • Case fascia dressed with a brass lock escutcheon — in working order, key present

  • Pleasingly accentuated to the corners with ebonised borders

  • Opens out to a gentle slope, with a two piece skiver



  • Pen tray with removable cover, and ink well compartments at the upper edge

  • Each half of the skiver lifts to gain access to a documents compartment

  • Leading edge skiver held in place with sliding brass clasp

  • Replete with a screw-top glass ink well in good original order
