This is an antique rector's prie-dieu chair. An English, rosewood ecclesiastical prayer seat, dating to the Regency period, circa 1820.



  • Fascinating display chair, with delightful quality and aesthetic appeal

  • Superb backrest adorned with a double scroll crest rail with oval centrepiece

  • Distinctive ears host turned finials above and below a faceted mount

  • Exceptional barley twist supports frame the back rest with aplomb

  • Lightly cushioned, the back rest occupies a broad T-shape with fretwork below



  • Set at a comfortable height of 43cm (17'') the plump cushion accentuated with brocade trim

  • Front legs repeat the barley twist motif, terminating in tall bun feet with inset castors

  • Gracefully canted rear legs also ride smoothly upon a pair of castors
