This is an antique Wainscote armchair. A Scottish, oak carved throne chair, dating to the mid Georgian period and later, circa 1750.



  • Superb example, with a carved back rest and sinuous arms

  • Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order

  • Select oak stocks present fine grain interest and deep caramel hues

  • Further accentuated by wisps of medullary rays



  • Gently angled back rest with chamfered top rail

  • Fascinating carved back, proudly displaying a Scottish thistle decor

  • Profuse with scrolled detail and fleur de lys motif over a charming heart

  • Downswept arms cascade to the broad, rolled knuckles



  • Each arm raised upon a short baluster turned support

  • Seat squab set at a comfortable height of 43.5cm (17.25'') - wide set for generous width

  • Raised upon turned and collared front legs, with wide, square sections at rear

  • United to each side with a tall stretcher rail, set within block feet
