Item Description

Large framed oil on canvas of a gipsy girl from Montjuich.

Inscribed on reverse: "Gipsy - Rosario" by an artist named J. Lamuño, created in Montjuich in 1951.

Artist: JOSÉ LAMUÑO 1912 - 1985

José Lamuño García (1912-1985) was a Spanish painter and artist from Asturias, Spain. He is recognized for his distinct style, often reflecting traditional Spanish themes, local culture, and rural life. Lamuño's works frequently depict landscapes, daily life, and portraits, capturing the essence of the Asturian region and its people. His art is known for its attention to detail and expressive qualities, and he often worked with warm, earthy tones that reflect the natural beauty of his surroundings.

Though not as widely known internationally as some of his contemporaries, Lamuño’s works are valued for their portrayal of regional heritage and are appreciated within local art circles. His work may be found in private collections and sometimes in exhibitions focusing on Asturian or Spanish regional art. He passed away in 1985, leaving behind a legacy that resonates with those interested in Spanish cultural and regional art from the 20th century.
