Titled 'Eva' by the artist, the medium of this work lends a certain mysterious quality to the portrait. Depicting the face of a girl, the engraving shows a shadowy figure in the background who's face is portrayed with the typical features of traditional Christian art, hinting at a religious or spiritual undertone to this fascinating piece. Maria Assumpció Raventós i Torras is a painter, engraver and tapestry artist born in Barcelona in 1930. She trained at the Sant Jordi School of Fine Arts in Barcelona, where she also worked as a professor of drawing. Highly accomplished across a number of artistic practices, this exceptional artist has exhibited internationally and won numerous prestigious awards, including first prize in engraving at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts (1971), and a gold medal at the Circle of Fine Arts in Madrid to name but a few.
