Item Description
A framed section of snakeskin with the hand written label, 'Skin of the Snake that killed Capt Anderson on his 1856 South American Expedition.'
I love a bit of research and despite trawling through archives including the Smithsonian's lists of expeditions, UK and US death records and numerous addresses given to the Royal Geographical Society (which are a fascinating read, full of tales of poison darts and inhospitable locals with spears), I've not yet unearthed the unlucky Captain.
The section of snakeskin is housed in a glazed wooden frame with simple mouldings,
Height 45cm
Width 65cm
Whether the label is accurate or not, I've enjoyed trying to find Captain Anderson...
