An 18th century large salt box or zoutkist. (See picture from an antique book)


This was used long ago and handfuls of salt could be put on the pig on the spit. Salt was kept like this as it was quite difficult to get and pricey.


The oak is very old and the tree was probably was standing in the 17th century.


These are very rare now and to find one of this age is a good find.


A small split at the front, this is a special piece of kitchenalia.
