An original work by Gualverio Michelangeli for Sangiovanni C1960,  with his makers mark on the reverse.  This piece demonstrates the particular blend of folk and contempary art developed by Michelangeli in the mid 20th century. Working in pine and using 'modern' tools, he was solely responsible for creating a completely new style for the  family business, which had been founded as furniture makers in the late 18th century.  Baed in Orvieto, Italy Michelangeli became such a well respected local artist that he had a street named after him.    The business continues to thrive today, under the hands of his daughters.   A collectable piece in very good condition.
