This quirky and highly sculptural early 20th Century American folk art mechanical whirligig figure is stood on a new makeshift pine base. The figure showcases metal pin eyes, hand painted detail including a top hat and weathered orange coat with trousers. Connected to a working very crafted mechanical turning mechanism, which is encased in what resembles an American style letter box. This example would have been connected to a propeller of sorts to make it move up and down when the wind blew.
Size in inches: H 25” x W 21” x D 9”
Origin: America
Date: Early 20th Century
Condition: Aged
Weight: 5kg
We believe this item is around 80 to 100 years old, still in complete original condition. There is wear and tear present in the form of faded surface, natural damage to the front of the hat which has broken off. The mechanism moves very well for an item of its age. The stand is makeshift and pine (the figure stands upright but is not stable). An od object that has spent all its life outside, so please expect relevant aging and loss.
