https://www.thehoarde.com/dealers/the-turquoise-potFabulous antique mid-C19th Baccarat French green opaline glass bell shaped scent bottle. This gorgeous Baccarat scent bottle is a rare survivor and still has most of its gilding but is lacking its original stopper. A great addition to any collection of antique scent bottles and can also be used as a vase if you prefer a more practical use - especially good for dried flowers.
Greens and blues are very difficult to capture in photographs but this is a really pretty apple-green opaline glass, so typical of the great French factory of Baccarat/St. Louis. This dates from around 1850 and has the typical petal cutting at the top and is an unusual bell shape, which makes it very stable. The pontil mark has been ground out and the number 3 etched inside the convex.
Condition: Extremely good for a piece which is nearly 180 years old. There are no cracks and only one very small shallow chip on one of the undersides of the petals (see photograph) which you have to look hard to find and is not remotely distracting. The gilding is still very good with some rubbing as you would expect for a piece of this age, but still very pretty.
Care: Obviously do not wash, scrub, polish, put in the dishwasher or anything else idiotic! If you MUST clean it then just a very gentle wipe with a slightly damp soft cloth once in a blue moon but really you shouldn't do anything to it at all - remember gilding can so easily be wiped off.
Postage: I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit. Postage to the UK is free and includes proof of posting and a tracking number. I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch. If you wish this posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
