Item Description
This is a lovely find - a survivor from the great Festival of Britain 1951, the huge post War series of exhibitions and events held to commemorate 100 years since the original Great Exhibition of 1851. It also heralded the arrival of modernity and the beginnings of a 'new age' after the horrors of the second World War. The Festival excelled in promoting British science, technology, industrial design, architecture and the arts.
This pretty tea caddy in chrome, the metal 'du jour' of the 1950s is decorated with the Festival of Britain logo designed by the graphic designer Abram Games and surrounded by wriggle work and the word 'TEA' on the verso in Chinese style lettering. A pull off lid is decorated with an ivory-coloured spherical knop.
In extremely good condition for its age, very clean inside and out and with no problems. A few mild signs of wear and use but nothing serious. This lovely caddy is as useful today for loose tea as when it was purchased new as a souvenir of the Festival.
Postage: I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit. Postage to the UK is FREE and includes proof of posting and a tracking number. I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch for peace of mind. If you wish this posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
