Item Details

Very pretty later Victorian pottery sauce or gravy jug decorated with Japanese-influenced turquoise transfer-print 'Aesthetic' Period decorated including fans and bamboo. The 'Aesthetic' period was from roughly the late 1860s until the end of the 1880s. It was a fashion for decoration in the 'Japanese' style after the opening up of trade links with Japan, a previously very closed and secretive nation, from the 1860s when the West, especially here in the UK, began to be more exposed to the beauty of Japanese design.

This pretty pottery jug was produced by Crown Pottery of Stoke-on-Trent, the heart of the Potteries in England, under the trade name of 'Ceramic Art Co. Ltd.'. 'Art' was very important to the Aesthetic Movement so was added to even quite humble wares, such as here. This gorgeous boat also has its registration number of 38268, dating it to the late 1880s.

This lovely boat is great for any kind of sauce or gravy and will of course be a great addition to your Victorian Christmas table. It is in great condition but for full disclosure there is a small chip back left underneath the handle - see photos - but I promise you it looks much worse in the photographs than real life. Please remember this lovely piece is nearly 150 years old!

Care: Obviously please DO NOT put in the dishwasher. Just a gentle wash by hand is all that is needed.
Postage: I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit. Postage within the UK is FREE and includes proof of posting and tracking. I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch for peace of mind. If you wish this posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
