Item Details

Biot" is a style of pottery that dates back to the 16th century, named for its town of origin, which is near Cannes in the south of France. "Jarres de Biot" (biot jars) are hand-made from a mixture of red and grey clay. The jarres are distinctive for both their shape and the glaze used around the rims. They were used to store flour and preserve olives. This 19th-century one is a really appealing example of the style which would look lovely as a vase for dried flowers or as decorative items in its own right.
