Item Description
This 18th century wardrobe is the embodiment of Chinese symbolism. The stunning original lacquer and hand painted artwork showcases the history of this piece. The painted pheasants are known as symbols of beauty in China, and the bold golden leaf symbolises purity and represents the divine in religious art. To emphasise the aspect of religion, the profound image in the bottom centre could be viewed as a scroll, with an ink and quill, which are painted in a way to convey a religious meaning. Also, near the base of the wardrobe there a multiple painted images shown including books, a basket of goods, and a potted plant.
The quality of this piece is undeniably outstanding and this can be seen by the original paintwork and craftsmanship which has been practically untouched by the age of this piece. It originates from the Shanxi region of China, and is made from a mixture of pine and elm which gives it that gorgeous rustic colour. It has 2 shelving units and a hidden draw compartment in the base.
This amazing piece of furniture would be a perfect addition to your home by adding an oriental and rustic feel.
