Item Description
A superb crystal jug designed by Gustave Serrurier-Bovy. Made from Belgian crystal, and banded in copper, with copper fittings and a copper and wood handle, this is a very stylish design. Serrurier-Bovy was credited with creating the Art Nouveau style and in 1884, on a visit to London, he became interested in the Arts and Crafts movement. He was most well known for his furniture designs, which he sold through his store in his birthplace Liege and he also designed accessories which complimented the furniture. This piece would date from c.1890. There is slight denting to the copper , around the base, but otherwise it is in very good condition.
