Item Description
A fine quality, pair of 18th century, Wedgwood black basalt ewers. Each vase is marked “WEDGWOOD” and also has a small, impressed workman’s mark which is known as the moustache mark due to its shape. They date from c.1780. They are very simple in form, based on an ancient Greek shape, and there is no decoration which means that the basalt has to be of the finest, smoothest quality. They are a superb example of basalt at its best and both ewers are in excellent condition.
Dimensions: Height 23cm. Diameter 14.5cm. Width 17.5cm.
