Item Description

A very unusual child's 'drawing' plate, made by Bishop & Stonier of Hanley, Staffordshire in approximately the 1920s. What makes this plate interesting is the matt finish of the glaze on the middle part of the plate. This allows a child to draw on it with pencils and pencil crayons and, when finished the drawing can be easily washed off. It really is very unusual and I've never seen another like it. The edge of the plate is decorated with a border of children's playthings of the period and the words 'Drawing Plate', covered with a normal glossy glaze.

The back of the plate bears the Bishop & Stonier 'Bisto' mark, used between 1891 and 1936.

The plate is in generally good condition with minor wear commensurate with its age and use.
