Item Description
19th century Crandalls John Gilpin Toy
We are proud to offer a rare survivor from the late 19th century. In the form of a fully articulated child’s toy. Made from pine, detailed in lithograph, and with a maker’s mark stamped on the inside leg of the horse as shown. This example comes with two mounting blocks, one for the man and one for the horse. The man’s hat is removable, and both figures are fully articulated with brass joints. With a folk art and naïve charm, they sure don’t make them like this anymore.
Size in inches approx.: H 14” x W 14” x D 3” (man sat on horse)
Period: Late 19th Century
Material: Lithograph over pine
Origin: America
Condition: Good
Completely solid in structure and form, aged naturally, discolouring across most of the surface, loss of detail areas shown.
This is an aged object so expect age related wear as the photos aim to show however it is exceedingly difficult to photograph all the areas on this piece. Therefore, we strongly suggest reviewing all the photos provided as part of this advert and propose questions where sections / condition is unclear to avoid disappointment when purchasing.
