Item Description

Early 20th Century English folk art scratch-built ship model of S.V Liverpool

One of the best examples we have uncovered, an early 20th Century example of an English folk art scratch-built ship model. The S.V Liverpool was the fastest steel sailing ship of its time in the early 20th Century. This scene depicts it being wrecked in 1902 of Alderney (Guernsey). This example is made of exceptional high-quality craftsmanship, from the metal sails, carved wooden detail of the hull with small boats, cabins and stairs, sealike cotton detail, lighthouse sat on actual rocks and canvas painted backdrop. Encased in its original hand-crafted pine case box and amazingly its 19th Century hand crafted wobbly glass front. The worn painted surface of the outer case is beautiful and has aged perfectly. A very decorative piece of English nautical folk art in our humble opinion and would make an amazing centre piece in any stylish setting.
