Item Description

Beautiful large oil painting on canvas entitled 'Summer' by Lady Miller of Glenlee, signed Audrey Miller, with provenance on verso. Circa mid 1970s.  Lady Miller of Glenlee, painting under her professional name of Audrey Miller, was a Suffolk based artist - see her biography below.

This lovely painting is in its original 1970s frame, with 'Miller' written on the verso of the wooden frame and an attached description from its original exhibition which reads 'Summer, oil, £, Audrey Miller of Glenlee, Ivy Grange Farm, Westhall, Halesworth, Suffolk'.   Restful country scene of what appears to be a thatched medieval cottage set amongst trees and fields on a balmy summer's day. Soft palette of greens, blues and browny-mauves, with splashes of white and yellow. Signed bottom left Audrey Miller.   Undated, but presumed to be mid-1970s.   A lovely, calming, painting which will look wonderful in any interior, period or modern.

Extract from suffolkartists.co.uk:
MILLER OF GLENLEE, Lady Marion Jane Audrey 1924 - 2005
As Marion Jane Audrey Pettit, usually going under her name of Audrey, was born at Chilton, Sudbury, Suffolk on 27 March 1924, daughter of Richard Spencer Pettit (17 February 1889-14 April 1983), a corn merchant & cattle farm manager, and his wife Sarah May née Gardiner (24 December 1888-16 February 1988), who married at London City in 1914 and in 1921 were living at 43 Clarence Road, Sudbury, Suffolk and in 1939 were living at 'Applecraft', Great Henny, Halstead, Essex. Audrey married at Halstead, Essex on 2 September 1947, Sir Frederick William Macdonald Miller of Glenlee, 7th Bart., (21 March 1920-19 June 1991) and they had two children Alison Hilary Miller, born 3 August 1951 and Stephen William Macdonald born 20 June 1953, who became 8th baronet Miller of Glenlee. Audrey was a member and exhibitor at the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle 1976-1984 from Holton St Peter, Westhall, Suffolk and was also a member and exhibitor at Beccles Society of Artists 1977-1990 where she instituted the annual MacDonald Miller art prize for an oil painting, this later became the MacFee award. In June 1989 she exhibited at Reades Gallery, High Street, Aldeburgh, Suffolk from Ivy Grange Farm, Westhall, near Halesworth, Suffolk. Lady Marion Jane Audrey Miller of Glenlee died at Westhall on 18 February 2005.

Condition:  Condition of painting is extremely good with nothing to worry about. Condition of frame is very good with just one or two tiny corner knocks but nothing to worry about and I would certainly advise keeping in its original frame. Could do with some fresh artist's tape on the verso to secure but I can do that if you wish - just ask me.

Postage:  I always pack everything extremely well to ensure safety in transit.  Postage to the UK is free and includes proof of posting and a tracking number.  I always send a photograph of the postage label to the customer on despatch.  If you wish this posted overseas please contact me first for a price.
